He Still Loves Me

He knows we shouldn't be together.
He's told me as much many times.
He finally made me see the light.
He not only knew what was best
But even risked losing me outright.
As I snuggle against his chest
Even now I realize he was right.
For this wisdom I'd say I'm blessed.

He struggles to understand me.
He gets the wrong impression so often.
He touches me because he tries.
He may be completely off base,
Yet I know what underlies
The perplexity of his face
Is his attempt to realize,
Somehow put himself in my place.

He may struggle with the thought of us.
He may push me away one moment.
He may hold me close to him the next.
He is surely expert in how to confuse me,
But what's simple can still be complex.
Genuine affection he'll never refuse me,
And I believe its long-term effects
Will only help the right one finally choose me.

Till then I can brave the rougher stuff.
He still loves me...that's more than enough.
