I Was Loved

There may come a time when I look at the moon
With no one beside me to hold my hand,
Companionship and romance but a balloon
That sailed away in spite of all I planned.
Fortune may not always smile.
Bluebirds serenade us but must then depart.
Some things are just for a while.
Still, I'll say I was lucky you played a part.
Without you I'd never have known the bitter nor the sweet,
Would never have felt my heart race through tears I can't explain.
Time can't steal away the heaven where you and I meet.
I close my eyes and rest assured it will always remain.
This story of ours is no work of fiction -
I can say I was loved with perfect conviction.
