The Tallest Man

He may look me square in the eyes

Though he claims to look down,

Slight adjustment being made

As he lifts his heels ever so slightly above ground.

He may look up to the last ones,

The men who came before him then fell away,

Yet somehow I had to remind myself of it -

It certainly doesn't seem that way.

When his arms close gently around me

And the warmth of his skin blends with mine

I can rest assured I'm perfectly safe

As I feel our bodies intertwine.

Time and again he's been a man of courage.

How nice to know if I'm ever in trouble,

My SOS ringing through the lines,

There he'll be to protect me on the double.

Oh, he makes constant light of his shortcomings

With the flash of a grin and self-deprecation,

And how that endears him to me all the more.

I'd say he deserves my appreciation.

In this world of harsh words and neon lights

I want him by my side come nightfall.

No matter what you see it's clear to me -

My man is the tallest of them all.
