You Are So Beautiful **

One look at me and your eyes flash worry,

A fear I'll find out what I've already learned.

What's it like dashing off in a hurry

As though the fires inside will leave you burned?

You haven't fooled a soul, least of all me.

We would all be the poorer if you had.

Your colors keep shining beautifully

And each shade is a reason to be glad.

Climb to your pinnacle. Let the wind hit your face.

Stand in your truth and nothing will defeat you.

There's love coming at you from all over the place

And if you hide from the light it can't come through.

What a gift to bear witness as your colors show...

You are so beautiful, love. I thought you should know.

Author's Notes/Comments:

** new poem written for this collection

This is about a casual friend who either will not come out of the closet or has hidden the truth of himself so well that he can't see it. It hurts me to see him not live authentically. I wish I could talk to him about this and tell him how beautiful he really is, but I had to settle on writing the poem instead.
