Lies

I think of nights you held me oh so close,

Your every gesture so reassuring.

Those sparkling eyes could not fail to engross

This boy adrift in search of his mooring.

You made me believe there was more to me

Than I was giving myself credit for.

Ever your tough love warmed. It set me free,

Free to do better things, accomplish more.

They say that time flies when you're having fun,

And yet precious little can feel so great –

Ours was a bond that could not be undone,

A sentiment you would reiterate.

Now I cry. When did I fail to realize

The difference between the truth and the lies?
