More About Me

I'd wrap you in blankets, tuck you in bed,

Live up faithfully to each word I've said.

This candle for you most earnestly burns,

Never flickering for a moment's lark.

I don't understand how your court adjourns

Leaving me to fend alone in the dark.

I've done for you. I've loved unselfishly.

I see now those things say more about me.

Sometimes bonds are only strong from one side.

This break was not anticipated.

You've spurned me, you've cruelly cast me aside,

Yet here you remain, illuminated.
