The Ones Who Never Suffered

The ones who never suffered have no clue.

Time and again they get more than their due,

Receiving endless praise just for being.

Adversity for them is sightseeing.

While the rest of us studied for the test

Their way with a ball meant they were the best.

The ones who never suffered know no pain.

As we watched our hopes get washed down the drain

They rode off smirking with a gorgeous blonde.

Where was our fairy with a magic wand?

While they were told loving was their birthright

We were told to settle for the first bite.

The ones who never suffered formed a gang.

They were far ahead and got such a bang

Out of making us feel small and slighted -

They were a club, and we weren't invited.

While they claimed status and kept walking on

Ours were the backs they had trodden upon.

The ones who never suffered close their eyes.

Sleep comes easily when you don't realize

How swiftly all can be taken away -

They believe they will always have their way.

While we were learning a smart man prepares

They queued up to be taken unawares.

Years have passed by, I've held my head high,

Yet through it all I still can't deny

My wish that I were one of the ones.
