Distance

Claustrophobia took my breath away,

Coerced me into utterance of “yes.”

Now I’m out on a limb, so far astray –

When I’ll return is anybody’s guess.

Though I’ve long suppressed this spirit of mine

It has paved a road I’ll now travel by.

I have honored a call to fall in line,

A call which comes from only you, not I.

Overdue I’ll negotiate each turn,

All bridges and highways beyond my doubt.

Each path I’ll cross holds a lesson to learn –

They’re for me to know and you to find out.

In spite of your foreboding insistence

I have discovered comfort in distance.
