04. Goldenrod

Your nectar endears and draws me nearer,

My heart ready to melt like butter

As I see our reflection in the mirror –

Inconsistency, wings aflutter –

Colored as you are like a sun-kissed glow,

Colored as I am like honey on snow.

You whose presence renders me still

Leave me your servant, here to stay,

Make me await the possible thrill

With delayed arrival…someday.

Satisfied I’d be but for this allergy

To render me a sudden absentee.

Your nature, you see, is cause enough to flee,

Making a terrible liar out of me.
