13. Rain

The sunlight behind the windowpanes -

A world away behind my curtain.

It's insurance that my smile wanes -

One thing I've always known for certain,

For I know how you are and what you'll say.

I refuse denial at my own loss

And say "go away" to my sunny day

Though I do see all that my fate has cost.

I can hear it when you say my name

Taking mercy on a sad soul like mine.

You say "that's not how you play the game.

You'd best take a ticket and wait in line."

Well I must say it's heavy on my mind.

If someone like me would reach for your hand

Why must you leave me so undermined?

Why is it you cannot understand

That I'm the best one you'll ever find?

There's nothing here I see fit for change.

And though you may correlate weak with kind,

None of these parts need a rearrange.

Go on. Give in to illusion like a bear to honey.

If that's what you must do then please don't deny.

Although the forecast may no longer be sunny

I prefer the truth of rain to a blind eye.
