Christmas Really Had Its Way With Me Again This Year (written with Karen Palma)

Christmas really had its way with me again this year
And it will be a drawn-out recovery, I fear.

Don't give me fruit cake - I have enough fruit cakes!
A dozen from this year and the year before.
Oh, and brakes! Don't get me started on my brakes!
They've hit so much traffic they're now waging war!

Christmas really had its way with me again this year
And the sudden lack of wine makes that perfectly clear.

If I have to pretend to love one more bad present, God help me,
And if I hear Gene Autry one more time God help the DJ!
I could swear as I walked beneath our lopsided old pine tree
That the tinsel tried to strangle me. I've got to get away!

Christmas really had its way with me again this year.
It's like a ride on Santa's sleigh with no landing gear.

The elves in Macy's window wear Calvin Klein ski apparel.
Their eyes follow me as I faint at the checkout line.
For the hundredth time I hear that same accursed carol
As the salesgirl spritzes me with cinnamon and pine.

Oh yes, Christmas really had its way with me again this year.
Let's cut, if you please, to a crashing red and green chandelier!
