In This Space

I am not smitten with reality.
At worst it offers heartburn and heartache,
More often simply sheer banality -
Existing, that is, for existing's sake.
The only refuge I have found is here.
Within these walls imagination wins,
Facilitating thought, laughter and fear -
This is where our actual life begins.
Taste it once, and it is ever longed-for.
Nothing else says you're alive like this does.
We say we're through, but come back for more -
There is nowhere else such a sugar buzz,
Nowhere else a more sacred time and place.
I would always rather be in this space.
