Base Desires

To his family he wouldn’t, but to me? Yes.
He bends his principles where he will benefit,
And how low he will go is anybody’s guess.
You should check his bills to see if they’re counterfeit.

Something more for him, something less for me.
He threw up his hands in spite of my plea.
He took the torch to his own pyres.
He operates from base desires.

She would never ingest a liquid like this.
I heard her call it a poison just yesterday.
Now she smiles for the camera, says it’s bliss.
They provide her with compensation and she walks away.

“Only the best for me, but not for you.
What do I care what your body comes to?”
That integrity soon expires.
She operates from base desires.

You assured me of no need for worry.
My problem would be fixed by your able skills.
With gratitude I came in a hurry
Only to find I owed you nights of cheap thrills.

“Nothing in this world comes for free, baby.
Couldn’t it be you want this, too, maybe?”
Another in a world of liars.
You operate from base desires.

The tidal wave inside me begins to crest.
A lifetime of memories rides within.
There can be no peace, no period of rest,
Only waiting for the work to begin.

As it applies to you, it does to me,
And we’re locked in a cell and can’t break free.
You’ll see what this hatred inspires -
I operate from base desires.
