My Grandmother's Loft

My grandmother’s house had a loft where we used to play in when I was four years old. There was a huge rug with a city painted on it and we would grab my toy cars and pretend we were driving down the city. We also had a bag of mixed Lego pieces we utilized to build all sorts of weird things. These things ranged from robots and buildings to monsters and dragons. Of course, since the bag was mixed our Lego figures would be inconsistent and at times even ugly, however there was a certain charm to how the mixed bag influenced how the figures came out. When I came to visit, my grandmother would prepare some chocolate milk with assorted snacks which we would eat as we played in the loft. There would always be a homely smell in the loft which had a sort of woody smell, which to this day still brings me nostalgia whenever I get a whiff of a similar smell. While there was no television in the loft, we would occasionally bring a little television that was portable and worked with a set of huge batteries. We would watch cartoons all morning if I had stayed to sleep in my grandparents’ house, of which my favorite was the Pink Panther. I loved to watch the Pink Panthers’ shenanigans and how (now that I think of it) he would torture the main antagonist of the episode. After that we would come down from the loft to go and eat pancakes that my grandfather was preparing, and we would talk about school and my interests. Occasionally I would be treated to a story of my grandparents meeting and how they fell in love with each other. I remember vividly how my grandpa’s eyes would light up as he described how he searched for a white rose (my grandmother’s favorite) in order to invite her to the prom. My grandmother was a sweet woman, who even when she was busy would always make time to play with me or make me a snack. My grandfather on the other hand, was a bit busier, as even in his old age he still worked as he loved what he did. He was the one who showed me the first computer I ever saw, it was an apple computer which had a green transparent plastic as a cover. I would always enjoy going to my grandparents’ house no matter the circumstances, and would jump at the opportunity.
