Choices

She wanted

you to know

the pill didn't work

or she wouldn't

be at this clinic;

in the middle of

this controversy.

The protesters

who stood chanting

by the entrance

threw epithets

and rocks to scare her away.

She made it inside

w/only a few

bruises,

but the bomb scare

gives her second thoughts

and the nurses

all look anxious

and the only real

excuse she has for remaining

firmly planted in her chair

is her mother's warning

still echoing in her mind of no

room in the house

for a baby.

Plus she figures

a 16-year-old single mother

w/no diploma is

2 more strikes against.

Adding insult to maiming,

Her ex-boyfriend, the father

might have auto-immune-deficiency-syndrome(AIDS).

Some toss

accusing, cute phrases

like baby-killer,

or murderer of the innocent.

But who was

there when her innocence

was murdered?

When her pristine bubble

of a carefree life was

destroyed, shattered.

And even as

the shouting outside becomes

louder,

she's still unsure.

Decisions,

decisions...

I like to think this speaks to both sides of this issue.
