Lazy Days and Cigarettes

Down by the shoreline of the sea

My one true love, he waits for me,

Amid the water deep and blue

Reflecting all the purest hues

That stretch across the broad horizon

Far beyond the reach of earthly men

In this world and the next,

None are better than the rest.

But I'll hold him to my chest and let

All my love spill our regret

Upon the twisting sands of time

That pour out into every rhyme

And memory of photographs,

Sleepless nights, and cheshire cats

That grin along the edges of the moon.

But lazy days and cigarettes,

Circus clowns and castanets,

Are all I'm lookin' for.

I don't want for too much more.

And if you think I'm blind for

Wanting to leave it behind

To go chase shadows, smoke, and mirrors,

Simply know my vision's clearer

When moving faster than the wind,

Feeling sunlight on my skin,

Because I know that I can win

All the dreams within my future

And I know I'll get there sooner

On my own if I just try.

Please don't worry, please don't cry.

It's just a different state of mind,

And although you look resigned,

Surely I've no need to remind you

That you're coming with me too.

Because lazy days and cigarettes,

Circus clowns and castanets,

Are all I'm looking for.

I don't want for too much more.

Author's Notes/Comments:

The chorus got stuck in my head and wouldn't leave, so I had to flesh it out.
