Into dark depths

Out past the last buoy of orbit,

a vessel’s drift steadies itself

against the wide, unclaimed dark.

Its path unruled by any single hand

—just the quiet weight of choices

set in place long before launch,

old code still clicking in its frame.

Panels hold their stored intention,

circuits keep their measured rhythm,

and the hull keeps its long watch

as constellations turn without a sound.

Here the craft is its own reasoning,

built to endure

the slow arithmetic of distance.

Then someone steps into the cockpit

carrying their own chart

—thresholds, habits, a private way

of engaging the dark.

They choose one star‑lane over another

for reasons they may never say.

A route sharpens under their attention,

a corridor opens,

their pulse giving the next small turn.

None of these alone completes the voyage.

The dock gives pressure,

the craft gives shape,

the traveller gives motion.

Together they make the expanse

where meaning shifts forward,

a vessel crossing the far dark

with its bearings intact.
