shadows lengthen

"Shadows Lengthen"

Shadows lengthen across the worn ground,
stretching like tired limbs that no longer recall
the crispness of morning,
the sharp incision of light once piercing the air.

Now the rays falter,
contours soften,
textures bleed into each other—
stone into dust, leaf into sky—
a hazy confluence,
blurred edges folding into dusk’s quiet drift.

The day, too old to return,
leans into its own forgetting,
a slow dissolve where presence still remains,
not sharpened, but diffused,
like sugar in the air—
cotton candy drifting,
fairy floss dissolving on the tongue of evening.
