The Day

The heavens light with holy fires

And dawn rests on the earth;

The darkness flees the lowest spires

And seeks a hidden berth.

As light begins earth’s day anew

So should the people sing;

The warmth of souls raised brightly too

Could greater glory bring.

Still, all is not joyfulness, for

There is darkness after this,

And the joyful happiness

Is vanished in a dank abyss.

So it takes discernment, mind,

For both the good and bad to find.
