For Love Endures

Spitting out words I never could swallow
Spouting counsel I never would follow
Such pseudo-sage advice--let lost love go--
Complexity in simple words I know
No word so hastily spoken assures
That time will lead to the love which endures

Who am I to delve into the torment
Of a lover no longer evident?
I too have known a love that would not fade
Naught burns so hot as love in retrograde
Despite soft words, my heart never conjured
The desired bliss of a love which endured

Only time will heal the broken heart for some
Perhaps heart's ache only new love will numb
Scribe emotions in journals and letters
Focus the mind on other endeavours
No panacea, but infinite cures
Our hope and pain live on, for love endures
