THE BEAUTY OF BLACKNESS

Folder:
"Beauty"

Now if you listen close I’ll tell you what I know:

The sweet songs of the birds;

The buzzing of the bees;

Even the sound of love high in the Evergreens…

Maybe the gently touch of the crystalline snow;

Time becoming more precious with the turn of the hand…

But none more beautiful,

Than a Black woman with a Black man.

Now if you open your eyes

You’ll see the two worlds attempting to come together;

Trying to emerge as one,

But the weather isn’t always sunny…

It’s funny, but money changes the mentality of a Brother –

Afraid of the Black night,

And white becomes his favorite color.

And while the Sister preaches heterosexuality,

She’s escaping to that lesbian world, you see…

It’s the little boys… that are making it hard… for the real men such as me.

See, you can pick & choose your sex & color,

But the heart will always uncover…

That there is nothing more precious,

Than a Sister beside a Brother.

My Brothers,

Though your child’s eyes may be pretty as the ocean,

With the lightest skin tone & complexion,

Just remember who gave you the devotion,

Jeopardizing her reputation for your protection.

My Sisters,

Though she may please you in ways he never would-

Kissing places on your body that appear to feel good,

Just remember who loved you unconditionally,

And by your side he stood… when no one else would.

The could’ve been’s;

The would’ve been’s,

She was the one that should’ve been.

Ironing your clothes & giving you her all…

For so many years she was your “black” & “white”

Crying at night ‘cause another woman called.

The Sun can shine every morning;

The birds can sing all they can,

But we all need rain in order to grow,

And if you listen close I’ll tell you what I know;

There is still none more wonderful,

Than a Black woman…

With a Black man…
