After months of struggle,

I finally broke the news,

that I was no longer single,

and I had a secret too.

I wanted to reveal to my mother,

what was deep inside of me.

But she looked so happy standing there,

looking back at me.

~

I told her that I met someone,

and we wanted to be wed.

She looked me straight in the eye,

and this is what she said.

I hope he's good to you,

I hope that he cares.

I hope when you need him,

he'll always be there.

~

I hope he loves you,

and I hope he sees,

that you're a beautiful woman,

and you're all he'll ever need.

~

I hope he respects you.

I hope he treats you right.

I hope he never leaves you,

and comes home every night.

~

I'm excited for you darling.

I truly am in awe.

Tell me my sweet daughter,

when will I meet my son in law?

~

Words were stuck inside my throat,

I didn't know what to say,

but I knew it had to be done,

and it had to be today.

~

Mom, you know I love you,

and I hope you'll still love me.

But you'll never have a son in law,

that he I love is she.
