Velvet Thorns

Folder:
August 2002 Poetry

You’re like a beautiful rose,

but you deceive.

Your petals are soft,

but are filled with poison.

Your roots hold me tight,

but are strong enough to break.

And most deceptive of all,

are your velvet thorn.

Soft to the touch,

yet still prick and make you bleed.

You used your velvet touch,

to lure me into your trap.

I thought you loved me,

but once you got me,

your true thorns were revealed.

I bled,

your strong roots,

held me down.

You tried to take the pain away,

with the soft caress of your petals,

only to poison me,

with your false love.

You may not care about,

what you’ve done,

but I’m the keeper of the garden.

Now it’s my turn,

to sit and watch you wilt,

dry and crumble,

into nothing but dust,

in the wind.
