I had to get out of here,

I had to go away.

I know you don’t understand now,

but maybe you will someday.

I couldn’t take good care of you,

all I could do was love you,

but couldn’t really provide for you,

so going away was all I could do.

~

I hope when you get older,

that you’ll look so you can see,

that I love you with all my heart,

because you are a part of me.

~

I’m all torn up inside now,

because I had to go away.

Please remember, I didn’t abandon you,

I hope you forgive me someday.

~

I never meant to harm you,

or cause you any pain.

I only did it because I love you,

not because I’m vain.

~

Maybe with these words,

you’ll understand when I say,

that in order for me to really care for you,

I had to go away.
