Soiled Ground

Soiled Ground

Karyn Indursky

Wooden pencils hold
lead hair tactfully
in place upon
her artist's head
as she strokes
memories onto canvas
while flicking paint
for an effect
felt deep within
wet rosewood  eyes
telling their own
story of running
barefoot through orchid
fields while holding
embroidered corn fabric
tightly in her
calloused butter churning
hands being tickled
gently by the
wind's long feathers
as she races
forward to meet
an awaiting man
standing there with
arms wide open
for embracing this
ravishing beauty wrapping
paintbrush arms around
his neck before
kissing him passionately
until she realizes
nothing is there
when his body
is buried beneath
soiled ground.
