Dark History

An apple, a breast, a kiss of death,

the roman's plundered onward.

Women left without their loves,

by those they hated and abhorred.

Chariots, swords, a ball and chain,

skulls crushed for the sake of show.

Peasants starving in the streets,

gladiators dying from a blow.

Taken to a darkened door,

raped and left for dead.

Their fruit abused and bloody,

with legs broken and spread.

Have we come so very far,

from those horrid historic times?

Seems to me the world is full,

still with those terrible crimes.
