A bird surrounded by the moon,

flying high in the night.

Soaring with might against the wind,

all looking black and white.

A hugely large white round balloon,

illuminating bright.

Then I fell, and my knee I skinned,

should have been walking right.

Common Octave


Written in alternating lines of tetrameter and trimeter (8 & 6 syllables) the Common Octave is an 8-line poem (or stanza). The rhyme scheme is:
a, b, c, b, a, b, c, b.
