Light Of Love



We've known each other for years

comforted one another shedding tears

I've watched you cry and held your hand

always there as your true friend



Both with others

yet, staying close together

sharing secrets and talking about times getting better,

it hurt me so

knowing he treated you so bad

broke my heart

seeing you so sad



My marriage was over long ago

but I watched you hang on

because you felt you had nowhere else to go,

but in my heart I knew it wasn't so

all you had to do was look into my eyes and see,

this light of love in me



Friends we were

friends we are

and always will be,

I will always be there to pick up the pieces of your misery

but baby, when I hold you in my arms

can't you feel what I feel?

I know the way you hold me back tight,

it has to be real



So many times I've felt the closeness of your lips

seen and felt the desire we have held back to kiss.

Memories of a night we hugged

and felt our bodies stir,

only to have you jump up and rush out in a blur



So are you staying with him for the love of a memory

or are you running away from love that has grown with me?

I am your friend, baby

but I love you so much more,

give our love a chance and I promise it will soar



I promise from my heart to love you unconditionally

always treat you soft and tenderly

I will always make you feel special

you always will be,

I promise to love you completely



Just look at this light of love in me

just look,

I know you can see.

Take my hand,

I know you can feel

just touch,

this light of love is real



I will settle for your tears

if that's the way you want it to be

your hand as only a friend

if that's what you want,
