if only time didn't exist

Another day passes

and still she sees

opportunities lost

and spirits

broken…

Exhaustion sets in

as she realizes

it was all for the taking

if only she had reached out her hand.

Another week passes

and soon she forgets

the sacrifices made

to get her this far…

She looks in the mirror

and barely manages to notice

the dust

that has settled in

the tired circles

beneath her eyes.

Another month passes

and slowly she slips

farther

into the depths of

addiction…

his Love proves too much –

the Drugs lose their touch –

and she’s flailing to cling to reality.

Another year passes.

She started so well

ending bad relationships

starting ones that could go –

somewhere…

gaining malevolence

losing innocence

Had she known she would lose it all

in the end

maybe she would have tried harder.

A moment passes

and flashes

before her eyes:

reminders of the past,

memoirs of the future…

as pen is set to paper

and razor pressed to skin

She contemplates the possibility

of starting again tomorrow.
