The Night Walk

Other Poems

Out on the empty streets.

Moonlight filters through the trees.

Long shadows over the dark path.

The crunch of leaves below your feet,

As the light from the street lamps dances in her eyes.

The glass buildings light up the sky,

As people stay late to catch up on overdue work.

I've been waiting for this,

The long days of summer,

The melting heat...

Blows away in the autumn winds,

As winter creeps over the land.

The gray hands of the sky,

Engulf the quit night.

Waves crash into the shore,

As cars bustle in the streets.

People hurry home,

Escape the ensuing cold.

Yet I walk down the streets.

As the leaves of autumn blow away.

Swirl around me,

As snow falls.

White lights from the skies,

As moonlight ignites their flight,

As they land on the grass,

Crunch below my feet,

And still the sparkle is in her eyes.

The sounds of night,

Nothing at all.

The quiet wind blows in the trees.

Rustles the leaves on the ground,

And the snow in the air.

As you walk down the street,

Moonlight dancing at your feet.

The fires aglow in the windows,

Yet everyone is fast asleep.

Warm under the blankets,

I walk in the chilly air.

Breathe in the air of winter.

Crisp and cold,

Better then other seasons.

Icy waves hit the shore,

As the beach fills with snow.

It’s not a sight everyone sees,

Yet I like it better then summer.

Standing alone on the shore,

Looking out over the sea.

All the places to go,

Never know where.

Much like life,

But not at all.

Seasons change,

And soon my favorite will be gone.

But for now I'll enjoy the cold,

The snow,

The hot chocolate,

And the quiet serenity of winter.

Until it fades away,

And my walk comes to an end,

And summer comes my way.
