To Maya Angelou

Grief blankets my mind

over your sad demise

but yet I rejoice

your legacy and life

Our quest for

love and hope

end up in your

poetry and prose

Your heart bled

your soul wept

but you never lost faith

in beauty and grace

How did you bud  flowers

on the soil of tears?

how did you see a rainbow

over a sky so overcast?

that amazes and bewilders

You are gone

but your dream stays on

even many years from now

people will try to find

why "the Caged Bird Sings"

in despair and anguish.
