Who Said What?

I thought I said a phrase profound. You said that

I never stay with you when I come around.

Was it an idle sound? Did you mean that?

I have read books I thought contained the facts.

Martin told me how the I and You once found

Communicate. Or, wait. No, you said that.

This love we shared over a common lack

Of listening to each other. I clowned

But I heard you, fearful. Did you mean that?

Jean-Paul called me a coward and a rat

For avoiding responsibilities bound

And mixing around downtown…No, you said that.

What was it that thieved me of my dire tact?

How betrayed we are by my voice and your frown.

Was it a sincere sound? Could I mean that?

Leaving only will stave off needed combat.

The more we ask the more we talk and drown.

I thought I said a phrase profound. You said that

It was an idle sound. Did you mean that?
