When the time came as I never thought it would,
I couldn’t take my eyes off of you.
You were everything I thought you’d never be,
And nothing like the you I thought I knew.
The shock was burning,
The shame of being mistaken like a hot needle through my heart.
You were here to destroy me.
Searing hot white in a scarlet shell.
The sky enclosed us, tragic and bright.
Nothing but the sky, the sandy earth.
So alone.
Nothing anymore, but the sky, earth and your face.
That face, the face of destruction.
Dusty dryness drenched in fleeing life.
Wind and footsteps to echo my pain.
Footsteps that were fading,
And wind that roared, still and calm.
The beginning of the end and I knew it.
Yes, I knew it. Shock overrode the fear.
But…
You’re biggest destruction?
Being someone I never thought you were.
