Sordid Lark

In the beginning

So flick the careless cigarrette

Through the arbitrary smoke,

Retreat to clouds of pregnant air

Where pungent odors cloak

Watch the hard and anguished lines

Move in rhythm with the peach,

Downward poison calms the mind

Extracting sleazy, languid speech

Blackguard yet another whore,

Entice her with your sottish charm

Tripping on an unknown drug,

One you swore would do no harm

Guffaw towards a knockabout

Cheer and bellow at the sight,

One more time amidst the throng

Just another taphouse night
