the cage I call home 6/24/05

I sit in my cage

-breathing only to be eating

-sleeping only to be dreaming.

I wake up alone in my cage

to a stream of sunlight from a world

that I am no longer a part of.

-a stream of sunlight that provides neither comfort nor warmth.

I rest against the bars of my cage

knowing that I don't even deserve the feeling of the cool steel against my skin.

After forcing chuncks of dead flesh down

I clutch the little silver key that could release me from my cage

Instead I curl up on the dirty floor in the middle of my cage and close my eyes to escape.

But I never want to leave.
