Black Labs

I had a couple of black labs in my childhood dawn;
Their names were Shodan and Ichiban.
They were twin sister and brother;
They were both named by my mother.
One means "number one"; one means "first degree blackbelt;
Much love for these dogs, my family felt.
My Dad fed them lots of nutritional food with liver;
Of meanness, they didn't have a sliver.
In their lives were much tragedy;
Ichiban died young because she was sickly.
Shodan got hit by a motorbike;
A mountain of leg-healing, he had to hike.
He and his sisters were created to enjoy;
They were a very sweet girl and boy.
Ichiban was such a lady sweet and tired;
She was rarely ever wired.
I was mean to my dogs as I was growing up;
Now, I appreciate them as special pups.

By the way, Shodan lived after he was hit;
But, it didn't make him mean; he never bit!
