Life

You were young, you shone bright
Before entered night
You would smile in the sun
And douse it's pale light
You were gentle, ever kind
You were comfort to find
Though you hurt too
You never paid mind

I can still see you laugh
I can still hear you breath
In that room full of toys
We fought hard not to leave
And the games that we played
Echo on still today
In the hospital hallways
Our ghosts run away

In some quiet corner
Our words linger on
Like dust on a sunbeam
Glowing and strong
In my thoughts you remain
My closest of friends
And I wait for the day
When we'll play once again

It was cruel what life planned
As it took you away
What a gift we all lost
On that terrible day
But you live in the eyes
Of those you've never seen
My children have a smile
Like yours from my dreams

In their voices you speak
In their games you are there
In the skinned knees and heartbreaks
That we never shared
Their tears and their laughter
In all I see you
From the well you returned
To your your family anew
