A dark silent night.

It was a dark night, like many nights before that one, when Jon looked up to the sky with no stars shining. He stood up from the bench in the park and started walking to his home, it was not a long walk, but he liked it to do it slow. He had seen many things in those walks, dogs barking, kids playing, girls chatting and cars passing by the Street.

However, that night did not see anything of that, he just saw a lonely boy sitting in the porch of his house with his hands on his face and trembling. Jon was curious, why was a kid sitting in front of his house? But something in that little boy moved him and started walking to him.

He sat by his side and just stayed there, after a while the boy looked up and saw him, he had his nose red and his cheeks wet, his eyes were so sad. Jon was scared, he had never seen so many emotions in a kid’s face, and also he looked so familiar, it was a neighbor but he did not know who his parents were. ‘What are you doing here’ Jon said, ‘are you ok?’. The boy shakily said ‘I need you to tell me, please, I need to know how it was, I just need to know it, everyone has a different story but you know the real one, please tell me’.

And then Jon knew why this kid was so familiar, it was a story he did not want to remember, had happened months before and he just decided to erase it from his memory, but due to this boy was all coming back now.

It was a night exactly like that one, no stars in the sky and no one on the streets, the only different was it was cooler and the streets were wet and cover by a thin layer of snow. He, like always, was doing his walk to home he heard a screeching sound, he looked up to the road and saw a car coming in a really high velocity to his street, it seems like the driver had not control of his car, it was skidding and moving in a kind of zigzag way.

When it got closer, he realized it was a small car and unfortunately, the wheels did not have the necessary chains to stop the car, Jon knew he was about to witness a horrible accident, and there was nothing he could do about it.

The car passed flying to his side and it was obvious it was about to crash to the lamppost in front of his home. Jon closed his eyes when he heard the awful sound of compressing metal. When he opened his eyes he saw, what it seems had been a nice blue car, completely destroyed.

It may had been his need of always helping or something else, but Jon ran to the car to rescue the driver, when he was closer he saw that the person behind the steering wheel was the son of his neighbors. He was unconscious and was bleeding, Jon tried to pulled him out of the car but he was stuck, and without help, it was so difficult to unclog him.

The guy woke up and looked at him, he was shaking his head, trying to say something but words did not come out, blood was increasing and the life of his neighbor’s son was decreasing. People was getting out of their houses, he could hear the noise they were making. The guy moved, grabbed the hand of Jon and looked him, he was murmuring something, Jon got closer, ‘Thank you, tell him I’m sorry’ he listened. In a short while, the hand became heavier and Jon knew it. He listened someone screaming, someone crying, sadly, there was nothing to do now.

Back to reality the little boy was crying, ‘Why he’s gone? Why he leave? He was my brother, he did not have to go, he did not have to leave me’. Jon did not know what to say, now he remembered the guy playing with his brother, teaching him how to ride the bike, how to play baseball, how to skate. They were really close to each other. Jon did not want to tell him, the only thing he had to know about his brother was how he lived, not the way he died. ‘The only thing you need to know is that he was sorry to leave you and that he loved you until his last breath’.
