I could be in the middle of the lime light

while the times right

with my rhymes tight

and my future in clear sight; 

but nothing compares to those late nights

when all I want is something new-

but I'm sitting here starting to feel blue

they sayin "I'mma come thru"

but all I got to do 

is sit around and watch you do you 

cus for me that's all old news

and I see people like me 

for what it is that I can do

but, fuck, man! 

It's what I had to!

This is just a part of me

just the character I had to be

when there was nobody around for real soul food.

You think my art is beautiful

but what about the loneliness I had to go through?

They tell me not to trust

but question why I've got trust issues

There's just a couple things I had to learn,

bout the lessons of love and the way people are misused,

and now that's made me that person you look up to.

So next time you hit me up to come thru

just know I'mma do me 

cus I'm not a damn fool-

fool me once 

I might be the one you can run to

fool me twice

why you trickin me to run with you

fool me three times,

fuck, you get the peace sign

now it's pay the price time

step back 

I'm on the front line

you a quarter-back?

I've got a quarter bag 

smoked yours and all mine

the tortise and the hare 

it's crunch time

you way back and I'm up there 

 like a hi-hat beat in cut time-

there's  my punchline.
