Someday

Folder:
Dedications

Today my house burned down
and the plume of smoke
made its way into my soul.

You held me when it was over
amidst what still remained
as tears consumed me.

You broke the silence
long enough to tell me
that I could rebuild my life.

But I disregarded your words
because all I saw here
was the aftermath of loss.

Hope was so far from my mind
like it was buried deep
amidst the ashes.

Someday this moment
will be a shadow in my memory,
but right now all I see is flames.
