I'm not outgoing by any means;
I've never been known
to strike up a conversation
with a perfect stranger.

But people assume
because I am quiet
and keep to myself
that means I am antisocial.

I'm just watching everyone,
observing how people interact,
listening intently.

I am not trying to be rude
or pretend I am better than you.

I shy away from small talk
because I prefer to have
meaningful discussions.

I keep my friends close
and have trouble making new ones
because I am comfortable
with my tight circle.

I open myself up to few others,
choosing wisely to whom
I reveal my true character.

That doesn't mean I'm picky;
I just know who values my opinion
and who will stick around.
