Stuck in Our Ways

It's hard for me
to bite my tongue sometimes.

I can't help
blurting out the truth
when I'm surrounded by lies.

But my words fall on
deaf ears;
it only sounds like noise
added to the rest.

Amidst a world of inertia
and excuses,
we're all just stuck
in our ways.

Smile on cue;
keep your true self hidden
from the society of robots.

What happened to the sound
of progress?
Where did we lose our way?

We're all fading blips
on the map,
living slow and painful lives
until the silence consumes us.
