Seasonal Love

Like an autumn leaf,
I fell for you.

But our love lasted
for only a season
before you left me for good.

You punched the wind out of me.

Guess this is what they call
a heart beating.

I'm here alone
picking up the pieces.

Shoveling snow off
an ice cold heart.

I'm trying to catch my breath,
but it freezes on my lips.

My tears are snowflakes
covering the ground.

But there is hope
on the horizon;
there is a respite
from the cold coming.

I rest in the comfort
that this heartbreak,
like your love,
will only last for a season.
