Trying to Outrun My Past

What do you do
when you can’t
outrun your past?

When every single day
their ghosts catch up with you
and haunt you all day long?

Recurring nightmares
fill my senses
with the morning dew.

Each day,
a new mourning
that leaves me restless.

I long to know relief
from this stalking past
that won’t leave me be.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Inspired by the line by Levi the Poet in “The Teacher Speaks”: All the ghosts I’ve conjured up in the past threatened to come back and haunt me.”
