Trapped Behind a Glass

Folder:
Personal (Hope)

Trapped behind a glass
that hides what’s inside,
I lied to myself until
I believed I was only
valued for my skin.

Lost in the reflection
of my former self,
I did not think
this self-inflicted image
could ever change.

But when I shattered
that face in the mirror,
I saw what was masked:
there was beauty within
if I looked hard enough.
