Insults were hurled

as He carried

the weight of the world.

Air filled his lungs

despite the pain

of how His body was hung.

His limbs were nailed

on a splintered cross

and the sky was veiled.

The Sun is dying tonight

as he laments

the last moments of Light.

With a final breath,

the Son welcomes

His bitter death.

Heaven’s curtain was torn

resembling how

God’s heart mourned.

In tragedy’s wake,

the whole earth

began to violently shake.

Love died on a hill

that fateful Friday;

God’s will was fulfilled.

But in three days,

the stone was moved

and the Son was raised.

Rewrite 2012

Insults were hurled
as He carried
the weight of the world.

Air filled his lungs
despite the pain
of how His body was hung.

His limbs were nailed
on a splintered cross,
and the sky was veiled.

The Sun is dying tonight
as He laments
the last moments of light.

With a final breath,
the Son welcomes
His bitter death.

Heaven’s curtain was torn
resembling how
God’s heart mourned.

In tragedy’s wake,
the whole earth
began to violently shake.

Love died on a hill
that fateful Friday;
God’s will was fulfilled.

But in three days,
the stone was moved
and the Son was raised.
