Lost Souls

What a world we live in

when more people

are knocking on hell’s door

than heaven’s.

The hungry starve to death,

the poor die in poverty.

Where is their saving grace?

Counting their money

from air-conditioned churches,

rolling in the riches

they stole from the needy.

For aren’t the deprived

the very hands of God?

Open wide to receive

and in the process

blessing the giver.

How can they recognize

Jesus’ touch

when our hands

are clasped tightly

against our chests?

How can they join us

in paradise

if we don’t show them

where the entrance is?
