We used each other
and called it "friendship".

We took advantage of one another
because of our mutual loneliness.

Just two isolated people
thinking we had to face
our shadows on our own.

We needed each other
at one time when
we had no one else.

And maybe we saved
one another to some degree.

Perhaps our twisted version
of friendship became just that.

And I'm grateful for it,
whatever "it" is.

Even though it's hard to define,
"it" helps me wake up
in the morning.

"It" gets me through the day,
more than you know.
