Beauty Runs Deep

She applies layers of makeup

to hide who she has become.

She tries to smile,

but mascara runs down her cheeks.

Her tears give her away.

Her heart has been broken

a million times.

The pain seeps through her pores.

It's changed her

from the inside out.

It's made her less open,

less trusting.

She's turned into Pandora's Box,

a skelton of secrets.

She covers her scars

and at the same time,

buries her heart.

No one will ever know her beauty.

No one will ever know

her beauty runs

deeper than her skin.
