Forbidden Fruit

So long have I stared at this tree

sitting in my garden.

It's byproduct started as a seed,

pollinated daily.

Soon fruit emerges

and I've watched it ripen

over time until it matures.

It looks so succulent

glistening with its juices.

It calls to me;

I just want one bite.

I want its sweetness

to hit my tastebuds

for only a moment.

But I know as soon I can try it,

I will become insatiable,

craving it wantonly.

So best to stay away

from this forbidden fruit

that tempts me

in case it destroys me.
